Quick Longies!

I made these 100% Cashmere longies for a friend's daughter who turned one year old. They're made from thrifted sweaters, of course, and are SOOO soft.  They fit her perfectly, which was a near miracle considering I totally guessed how big they'd need to be!  I used the same design of the striped longies blogged about HERE.  My favorite thing about them is the lollipop appliqué!  I thought it would be more difficult with wool, but it went well.  I'll have to post a tutorial sometime.

They were SO soft, in fact, that I felt guilty not making a pair for my son as well (pictured below).  Since Munchkin is cloth diapered I put a "butt-panel" (as I call it) into his pair.  It's basically a V-shaped panel in back that gives more room for his well-padded bum! And I did the same fold-over waistband and cuff for his pair as well, so they'd last him longer in both height and width.

What do ya think!?

  4. @MaryLynn: I love wool too! I was a bit intimidated by the wool, but more intimidated by the idea of making clothing, which needed to FIT:-)

  8. Hi Anonymous! Welcome, and thanks for your interest in the post and the site! I don't know if you wanted the instructions for making the longies or the applique. But I am certainly not a pro-seamstress, and never use patterns (I just use a pair of my son's pants as a guide), so I've posted some links here: http://bhimiblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/longies-links.html to help guide you! Let me know if you make a pair -- I'd love to see pics!

  9. These are SO cute! I love the applique! Does cashmere work well for diaper soaking? I've not yet made cashmere ones b/c I didn't know how well they'd hold moisture, but would love to b/c they're so soft!

On another topic, do you have your blog connected to Facebook? I tried that but could not get it to go...

  10. Hi, and thanks for your kind comments Bethany! My son wears pocket diapers at night, so these are more for comfort and 'just in case" they would leak. So, the cashmere ones I made for him above are not doubled up. However, I've heard that cashmere works beautifully! If the cashmere's thin, and the longies/shorties are for nighttime wear with cloth diapering, you'll probably need to double up the cashmere like Kris does here: http://resweater.blogspot.com/2010/02/recycled-wool-longies-soakers-diaper.html

FB question: I'll send you an email about it!

Thanks again for visiting, and just saw you're following as well! Thanks so much!

  11. To clarify, I mean "...nighttime wear with NON-WATERPROOF cloth diapering..." In other words if you'd intend the longies/shorties to act as the sole waterproofing at night. (Sorry.)
